UT Southwestern
Website, Video and Photography
How do you convince people that donating to the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute isn’t just a simple act of donation, it’s an investment in the future of humanity? Portray the doctors in a light that’s true to the magnitude of the work they conduct on a daily basis. To do that, I created an entirely new website from the ground up that truly embodies the spirit of a brain institute on the forefront of a new frontier of medical discovery.
Role: Concept, Photo and Video Art Direction and Website Design
The website opens with a marquee inspirational video putting users at the forefront of a new frontier: the human brain. I worked with a CGI artist to create the custom neuron animations that were included in the video. I wanted them to feel as true to life as possible, to immerse the viewer in the depths the neurosystem.
Once in the website, viewers are introduced to stories focused on a set of doctors within the institute. Each individual story is presented through a documentary-style video and then complemented by additional content to give viewers a deeper look into each doctor’s unique area of exploration. Visually, I wanted a mix of rich, striking imagery and dark colors, contrasted by an expansive field of white. I wanted to evoke the feeling of exploring deep into our own selves, where endless opportunities for discovery are set before us.
Each doctor’s story page featured a long form video documenting their own personal expeditions into the depths of the brain.
The site was filled with bespoke photography, all shot in the style of a National Geographic piece.
